R. Kelly Allegedly Overdosed in Prison, Lawyer Claims Life-Threatening Negligence by Authorities

Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly was reportedly rushed to the hospital last week after an alleged overdose in prison, according to court documents filed by his attorney. Beau B. Brindley, Kelly's lawyer, claimed the singer was given an excessive amount of medication while in solitary confinement at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina. On the morning of June 13, Kelly allegedly collapsed in his cell, experiencing dizziness and blackouts before losing consciousness. He was transported to Duke University Hospital, where he was diagnosed with blood clots in his legs and lungs, Brindley stated.
Despite the medical emergency, Brindley claims Kelly was forcibly removed from the hospital against doctors’ advice. The attorney said hospital staff recommended two weeks of care and surgery to address the blood clots, but within an hour of that recommendation, armed officers returned Kelly to the prison. “He could die from this condition, and they are letting it happen,” Brindley wrote in a statement. He accused the Bureau of Prisons of endangering Kelly’s life through medical negligence and deliberate indifference, asserting that prison officials are obstructing life-saving treatment.
Brindley has petitioned the court for a temporary furlough, requesting that Kelly be placed under house arrest due to the alleged threats to his life — both medical and physical. Kelly, currently serving a 31-year sentence for child sexual abuse, racketeering, and pornography charges, was also reportedly the target of a murder plot by fellow inmates, according to a separate filing. An inmate alleged he was approached to assassinate Kelly but declined and informed him of the plan. The Post has reached out to Brindley for additional comment as the legal battle over Kelly’s prison conditions intensifies.
