Donell Jones feat. Left-Eye - "U Know What's Up"

This Throwback Thursday, we're revisiting one of the defining R&B hits of the late '90s, "U Know What's Up" by Donell Jones. Released in 1999 as the lead single from his sophomore album Where I Wanna Be, the smooth, infectious track helped propel Jones to international stardom. Written by a talented team that included Anthony Hamilton and produced by Eddie F. and Darren Lighty, the song blended soulful vocals with a polished groove that quickly resonated with audiences worldwide.
"U Know What's Up" became the biggest hit of Jones' career, reaching No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 while dominating Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart for eight consecutive weeks. The song also achieved major success overseas, peaking at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart and earning Platinum certification in the United Kingdom. Its crossover appeal was boosted by a popular remix featuring Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes of TLC, whose memorable guest appearance helped introduce the song to an even broader audience.
The accompanying music video, directed by Bille Woodruff, became a fan favorite thanks to its creative concept and star-studded cameos. Filmed partly at Castle Green in Pasadena, California, the video featured appearances from Left Eye alongside fellow LaFace Records artists including Usher, Big Boi, T.I., and the YoungBloodZ. More than 25 years later, "U Know What's Up" remains a timeless R&B classic that continues to remind fans why Donell Jones was one of the era's most celebrated voices.
