Reggae Artist Jah Cure Receives Longer Sentence After Dutch Court Finds Premeditation in 2021 Stabbing

Reggae singer Jah Cure will remain behind bars significantly longer after the Amsterdam Court of Appeal sentenced him to eight years and four months for the 2021 stabbing of concert promoter Nicardo “Papa” Blake. The ruling, issued October 30 by the Netherlands Supreme Court, reverses key elements of his earlier trial and centers on newly surfaced voice messages in which the artist allegedly declared his intention to wait for Blake with a knife at Dam Square, supporting a finding of premeditation.
The incident stemmed from a business dispute over payment for a performance in Amsterdam. Prosecutors argued that Jah Cure (born Siccature Alcock) confronted Blake in broad daylight and forcefully stabbed him in the stomach. While he was initially convicted of attempted manslaughter in 2022 and acquitted of attempted murder, Dutch prosecutors appealed the acquittal, citing the newly revealed voice recordings as evidence he planned the attack.
Alcock has been held in pre-trial detention in the Netherlands during the lengthy appeals process. His attorney simultaneously appealed the attempted manslaughter conviction, but the appellate court ultimately sided with prosecutors. The ruling marks a dramatic reversal of the earlier judgment, in which trial judges concluded the attack was not premeditated and declined to convict the artist of attempted murder.
