Chris Brown Arrested in Manchester on 2023 Assault Warrant

Chris Brown is back in legal trouble. The 36-year-old American singer and songwriter was arrested early Thursday morning at The Lowry Hotel, a luxury five-star establishment in Manchester, England. Metropolitan Police, armed with a warrant related to a violent nightclub incident, took Brown into custody without incident. The UK Sun reports his arrest came just hours after he arrived in the country via private jet, with plans to perform a major concert in London.
The outstanding warrant stems from a February 19, 2023, incident at Tape nightclub in London. Brown is accused of violently assaulting music producer Abe Diaw, allegedly smashing a tequila bottle over Diaw’s head before punching and kicking him. Diaw sustained multiple injuries and later filed a lawsuit against Brown, though he was reportedly unable to serve him due to Brown’s U.S. residence in Las Vegas. Ryan J. Daneshrad, Diaw’s attorney, told TMZ, “We are pursuing all legal remedies to hold him accountable... the injuries sustained are serious.”
Brown’s arrest adds to a long history of legal troubles tied to violent behavior. He made headlines in 2009 after assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna, resulting in a felony charge, five years’ probation, and mandatory counseling. As of Thursday morning, Brown remains in custody at a Manchester jail while legal proceedings unfold.
