Rapper Afroman has prevailed in a high-profile legal battle stemming from a 2022 police raid on his Ohio home. Surveillance footage from the incident showed armed deputies from the Adams County Sheriff's Office forcibly entering the residence during a search tied to suspected drug trafficking and kidnapping. No charges were filed, but Foreman said the raid caused property damage, financial loss, and emotional distress for his family. In response, Afroman turned the experience into creative fuel, releasing his 2023 album Lemon Pound Cake, which featured songs and music videos incorporating footage from the raid. Tracks like “The Police Raid” and “Why You Disconnecting My Video Camera” blended humor and criticism, while his social media posts and merchandise further satirized the deputies involved. The officers later sued him for defamation and invasion of privacy, seeking millions in damages and removal of the content. The case, which raised broader questions about policing and free speech, concluded with a jury ruling in favor of Afroman after just one day of deliberations. Speaking outside the courthouse, the rapper framed the outcome as a broader cultural win. “I didn’t win, America won,” he said, emphasizing his belief that the verdict reaffirmed the public’s right to free expression and artistic commentary.

Businesswoman Tina Knowles saw her “Mama Tina’s Gumbo” pop-up temporarily shut down during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo following a health department complaint. The booth, which debuted in early March, was serving her signature gumbo recipes to large crowds before officials intervened. According to the Houston Health Department, the closure was precautionary and short-lived. Health officials confirmed the stand was closed on March 16 after a complaint investigation but reopened the following day after passing inspection. The vendor reportedly cooperated fully, allowing operations to resume quickly. Despite the interruption, the booth continued attracting long lines and notable visitors, including LeToya Luckett, who praised the dish, and Bun B, who also stopped by to show support. Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, had promoted the venture enthusiastically ahead of its launch, highlighting her long-standing passion for cooking. Offering both seafood and chicken-and-sausage options, the pop-up marked her official culinary debut at the rodeo, blending Southern flavor with celebrity appeal.

This Throwback Thursday, we revisit the timeless elegance of Dionne Warwick and her 1964 classic “Walk On By.” Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, the song became one of Warwick’s signature hits, peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the R&B charts. The track’s emotional restraint and sweeping arrangement helped define an era, later earning a Grammy nomination and a well-deserved spot in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Recorded in New York City during the same sessions that produced “Anyone Who Had a Heart,” “Walk On By” showcased Warwick’s unmatched vocal control and storytelling. The song’s influence has stretched across decades, with Isaac Hayes delivering a memorable reinterpretation in 1969, and even inspiring modern hits like "Paint the Town Red" by Doja Cat, which sampled the original recording and introduced her voice to a new generation of listeners. A 6-time Grammy Award winner, Warwick’s legacy continues to evolve. Just last week, she announced she’s working on her final album, DWuets, set for release later this spring. As “Walk On By” reminds us, her artistry is truly timeless, bridging generations with grace, soul, and an unmistakable voice that still resonates today.

Mystikal, born Michael Lawrence Tyler, has pleaded guilty to third-degree rape in connection to a 2022 arrest, according to court records. The plea was entered during a March 17 hearing in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. Tyler, 55, had originally faced 10 charges, including first-degree rape, which carries a potential life sentence in the state. Under the plea agreement, he now faces up to 20 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for June. The case stems from a July 30, 2022 incident in which a woman accused Tyler of rape and battery after seeking treatment at a hospital. Authorities alleged that the woman went to his home to discuss financial matters when the situation escalated. Investigators said Tyler held her against her will and assaulted her. During the March hearing, prosecutors dropped the nine additional charges, including battery and false imprisonment, by filing notices of nolle prosequi. Tyler has remained in custody without bond since his arrest. Once a prominent figure in late 1990s and early 2000s hip-hop with hits like “Shake Ya Ass” and “Danger (Been So Long),” his career has been overshadowed by legal troubles over the years. He previously served six years in prison following a 2003 conviction for sexual battery and has faced multiple allegations since, including a 2016 case that was later dismissed.
