Rick Ross Arrested in Miami Beach on Battery by Strangulation Charge

Rapper Rick Ross was arrested Thursday morning in Miami Beach in connection with a domestic violence case, according to online jail records. Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. on a battery by strangulation charge. The arrest follows public allegations from his former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, who recently accused the rapper of physically abusing her.
According to a Miami Beach Police Department arrest report, Kendrick, identified by the initials J.K., reported an alleged Aug. 28 incident to police Tuesday. Authorities said she and Ross had been dating for about a year and living together when she was awakened by Ross, who allegedly became angry after she was tagged in an Instagram photo. The report alleges Ross slapped and repeatedly struck her, choked her using the collar of her hoodie, slammed her against a wall and caused a busted lip before she escaped the home.
Ross surrendered to police Thursday and did not provide a statement about the allegations, according to authorities. During a bond hearing, his attorney, Bradley Horenstein, asked for an expedited release, citing Ross’s celebrity status, but Judge Mindy Glazer said he would be treated like everyone else. She granted Ross a $5,000 bond and ordered him to stay away from the alleged victim. After his release, Ross told reporters he was “totally innocent” and called the allegations fabricated, while saying he planned to travel to Dubai and Paris over the weekend.
