Tina Knowles’ Gumbo Booth Briefly Shut Down, Quickly Reopens at Houston Rodeo

Businesswoman Tina Knowles saw her “Mama Tina’s Gumbo” pop-up temporarily shut down during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo following a health department complaint. The booth, which debuted in early March, was serving her signature gumbo recipes to large crowds before officials intervened. According to the Houston Health Department, the closure was precautionary and short-lived.
Health officials confirmed the stand was closed on March 16 after a complaint investigation but reopened the following day after passing inspection. The vendor reportedly cooperated fully, allowing operations to resume quickly. Despite the interruption, the booth continued attracting long lines and notable visitors, including LeToya Luckett, who praised the dish, and Bun B, who also stopped by to show support.
Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, had promoted the venture enthusiastically ahead of its launch, highlighting her long-standing passion for cooking. Offering both seafood and chicken-and-sausage options, the pop-up marked her official culinary debut at the rodeo, blending Southern flavor with celebrity appeal.
