Trey Songz Sues Kansas City Police and Stadium Security Over 2021 Arrest

R&B singer Trey Songz, born Tremaine A. Neverson, has filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department and several security-related entities, alleging he was assaulted, wrongfully arrested, and unlawfully detained during an incident at the AFC Championship game in January 2021. Court records show Neverson filed a petition for damages this week in Jackson County Circuit Court.
The lawsuit names the Kansas City Police Department, GEHA (which operates GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium) and Whelan Event Services. The legal action stems from a Jan. 24, 2021 altercation involving Neverson, stadium security, and Kansas City police. At the time, reports stated that Neverson was arrested for allegedly punching a police officer during the game.
According to the complaint, Neverson says he was seated as an invitee when nearby fans began harassing him due to his celebrity status, and that security failed to protect him from intoxicated and aggressive attendees. He alleges officers and security personnel used excessive force, falsely arrested him, and detained him without cause. Though he was charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer, all charges were later dismissed. Neverson claims the incident caused physical injuries, emotional distress, reputational harm, and financial losses.
