Miss Jones Revisits Ebro Darden’s Rise at Hot 97 and Loss of Her Morning Show

Radio personality Tarsha “Miss Jones” Jones is revisiting her departure from New York hip-hop station Hot 97, alleging that Ebro Darden strategically positioned himself to take over her morning show. During an appearance on the Quiet Part Out Loud podcast, Miss Jones recalled how Ebro was initially hired as assistant program director before being promoted to program director. According to Jones, Ebro also wanted to become an on-air personality and had his sights set on her coveted morning time slot. She also suggested that his focus on getting on the air distracted him from programming responsibilities as rival station Power 105 gained ground.
Miss Jones became emotional while describing how she lost her position in 2005 after being suspended over an on-air incident and having her contract go unrenewed. Ebro subsequently became a co-host of Hot 97’s morning show, which was renamed Ebro in the Morning. Jones made history as the first Black woman to host morning radio in a hip-hop format and has remained a notable voice in New York radio. She currently hosts the morning show on classic hip-hop station 94.7 The Block.
The story took another turn when Ebro in the Morning was abruptly canceled on December 12, 2025. Ebro took to social media to express his frustration over his departure, attributing it to his outspoken political views and the station’s need to satisfy advertisers. He now co-hosts a podcast with Peter Rosenberg and Laura Stylez. Beyond radio, Miss Jones also has a music background, appearing on AZ’s “Sugar Hill” and Big L’s “M.V.P.,” both released in 1995, as well as Big Pun’s “Punish Me” in 1998.
